Windows 7 Launches in India

New OS is more stable and secure and isn’t resource intensive. It comes with a simple, yet intuitive interface

NC News Network, October 23, 2009, 1230 hrs

The latest release of Microsoft’s PC Operating System (OS) is now available for commercial use in India. During the design and development stages of Windows 7, Microsoft focused on simplicity, speed, stability, security and intelligent features.

Over a thousand enterprise customers in India have already experienced Windows 7 for months, since they were involved in the customer experience program. Microsoft also has a software assurance program for commercial users of Windows wherein they are offered free upgrades.

Analysts like Gartner are advising enterprises to upgrade immediately (without the need to wait for a service pack). The feedback from testers has also been positive. So Microsoft is expecting faster upgrades to Windows 7.

Announcing the Windows 7 launch, Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman, Microsoft India, said, “Proactive engagement and feedback thereof with partners and consumers was fundamental to the development of Windows 7. It has helped deliver what is the highest quality OS in the history of Windows. It enhances the user experience by its sheer simplicity and caters to their connected lives across work and play. We are delighted by the initial reviews from partners and the technology community. Over 90 percent of testers from around the world have rated it as “good” or “extremely good” and consider Windows 7 to be responsive, simple to use and stable.”

Over 600 new feature ideas for Windows 7 were tested through global quantitative research early in the engineering process, helping Microsoft determine the features that best address consumers’ top needs. Further, Windows 7 saw the largest beta testing program in the history of the industry, with eight million testers worldwide.

The result is an easy-to-connect, easy-to-browse and simple-to-use OS that boots and responds faster, reduces power consumption, and provides hassle-free connection to devices. The new OS also streamlines PC manageability.

Customers like Infosys, Maruti, NIIT, Bangalore International Airport, Biocon, Wipro, L&T ECC, Big Cinemas, MindTree, Greenply industries, Malayala Manorama, Manipal University, GMR Infrastructure Limited and others are already enjoying these benefits.

Windows 7 is available in six editions, targeted at specific user groups. The two primary editions are: Windows 7 Home Premium for home users and Windows 7 Professional for small and medium businesses. Also available in the line-up are Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate.

Windows 7 desktops and notebook PCs are already available at retail outlets such as Croma and others.
